Sony Computer Entertainment have officially announced that the production of the Playstation 2 console has been discontinued. First launched back in 2000, the Playstation 2 managed to become the top selling video game console of its time, wiping out all competition during its generation, and also bringing Sega to its demise. In the past twelve years a whopping 154 million units have been sold making it the ultimate best selling console in history to date, only to be followed by the Nintendo DS. The platform gave birth to several game series, such as Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Dexter, Sly Cooper, God of War, and much more, and it also served as the starting point for several developers which today are the top development teams in the industry.
