Earlier this year S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Game World shut down, and the development on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was halted alongside the company. A smaller team was formed under the name Vostok studios, who began working on a survival title previously announced, but plans for the sequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. were canned, and the company moved on from the franchise. Today it has been revealed by a source close to the owner of the rights, that Bethesda will be buying the rights for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and start developing it for the console and PC platforms using Bethesda's in house technology. There has yet to be an official press release, but the news comes from a very reliable source.
