Project Morpheus Unveiled

It has been rumored for a long time that Sony have been hard at work developing a virtual reality headset for their blockbuster platform, the Playstation 4. During this edition of the GDC conferences, Sony Computer Entertainment confirmed the speculations and finally unveiled Project Morpheus.
The current prototype of the peripheral is set up with a 1080p display with a 90 degree field of view. The headset also sports an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and a Playstation camera sensor, which work in tandem together to track head orientation and movement in realtime as it rotates. The peripheral will also introduce Sony’s new 3D audio technology that recreates in detail stereoscopic sounds located in different directions from different sources that change as the user moves his head. Project Morpheus will be compatible with the Dualshock 4 and with the move peripherals also.
The headset has been in development for the past 3 years and the first development kits will be rolling out to Playstation 4 developers soon. There has been no indication to when the prototype will be available for the public.
