New Xbox update corrupts some Consoles

Xbox Customer support in the US might encounter a small number of Xbox 360 consoles which were rendered unusable after downloading and installing the latest firmware update. This latest update basically flashes the DVD drives to a new firmware which supports the XGD3 formats. After the user downloads the firmware upgrade and install it, the console will not be able to read retail disks any more. The first user who reported this fault has a 2009 Xbox pro 60Gb edition, the customer support verified the problem and the client was compensated with a new 360s and a full year of free XBLA subscription. Of course in Malta we won't have this kind of compensation scheme, but lets hope no one will need any. This article has been brought to you thanks to Kotaku.
