Solar Smart Benches in Boston

Boston City officials are making good use of public green spaces this Summer, by installing new solar smart benches, called, Soofas. These benches look perfectly normal, with the exception of steel boxes mounted on top, which encase photovoltaic panels, and data tracking equipment. This solar powered box, will work as a charging station, and will also collect data, such as air quality and noise levels, for Verizon.

Another cool initiative by the Boston City Council, is, that the people of Boston will be able to pitch-in which locations should be equipped with Soofas. By mid-July the location will then be publicly announced.
